POEMS BY ALBERTO PORTALES CERDA

Only my dreams can get you
Though I have just awaken,
the day still infant in my consciousness,
the images remain,
while I clean the spider webs off my eyes,

and the sweet dreams transform
into a barely perceivable yet pervasive pain,
which persists throughout the day
and intensify when I see you,

as if a virus had taken home in my heart.

Mid-year Blues
Come get your mid-year feedback, she said
whenever you are ready (polite, as always),
I will remain in my office, waiting for you

The door was open, come in, I heard
her smile firm, short, gentle, whereas
her suit was blue, but blue diffused

Turquoise earrings, and light blue shoes
- she plunged ahead, assertively speaking -
blue cobalt ring, so much to do

You must seek visibility, she said
so much work that no one sees
such complex context; her eyes, deep blue

Behind, a screen saver in her computer
shining softly behind her hair, lighting
clouds and sky of blue

Enthralling moment, my attention astray
with such discernment (indigo, azure)
how much I heard, I cannot say

She smiled again, something diplomatic was said
she sensed some hiding behind his mood
(feedback must be given carefully, she thought)

Her subordinate walked away, hypnotic, blue.
